Alabama State wins another non-conference match against C-USA opponent

Hornets have won three big non-conference matches

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State won their second non-conference match of the season against an opponent from Conference USA, defeating UAB 5-2 at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

The win comes after non-conference wins for the Hornets against Southern Miss and Samford this season. Alabama State (8-6) ended a three-match losing streak to the Blazers with the win dating back to 2016. The win is the first for the Hornets in Montgomery in the first meeting between the two schools in the capital city.

Doubles Play
  • The Hornets won the doubles point after wins at number two and three on the night. The number two team of Ruan Du Preez (Cape Town. South Africa) and Samrakshyak Bajracharya (Kathmandu, Nepal) won their match 6-4 to capture the point.
  • The team of Matis Amier (Epernay, France) and David Jeanne Grandinot (Lisieux, France) helped start the day with a 6-1 victory at number three doubles, easing to the win.
