MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped its second Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series of the year and first at home, falling to Alabama A&M 11-1 in game three at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex on Sunday.
Alabama A&M (9-17, 4-7 SWAC) led wire-to-wire with five runs in the first innings and scored in each of the first four innings on their way to the win over Alabama State (15-19, 7-5 SWAC).
Ashley Pye (Stockton, Calif.) suffered the loss in the start as she gave up five runs (one earned) on three hits in just 0.2 innings before giving way to
Elle Lunsford (Lawrenceville, Ga.). Lunsford went the remaining 4.1 innings and allowed six runs (three earned) as the Hornets committed four errors on the day.
Alabama State was held to just three hits on the day by Esperanza Coe (4-6) who worked 5.0 innings and allowed just one run (unearned).
How It Happened
- T1 | Allyson Riches reached on an infield single that allowed Tatianna Roman to score the game's first run before Imani Martin reached on an infield error to score a pair of runs. Lisabelle Hansell drove in a pair of runs on a single to left (5-0, Alabama A&M).
- B1 | Alex Preston (Stockton, Calif.) reached on an error allowing Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) to score (5-1, Alabama A&M).
- T2 | Venice Sanders connected on the first of her two home runs on the day, a two-run shot to right (7-1, Alabama A&M).
- T3 | Roman reached on an infield error and got all the way to third, clearing the bases on the bad throw (10-1, Alabama A&M).
- T4 | Sanders connected on her second home run of the day, a solo shot to right (11-1, Alabama A&M).
