ITTA BENA, Miss. | Alabama State split a doubleheader with Mississippi Valley State on the opening day of its series with Mississippi Valley State winning the nightcap 2-0 after dropping a one-run game (4-3) in the opener.
Alabama State (16-20, 8-6 SWAC) pounded out 10 hits in the second game of the doubleheader with
Destinee Dixon (Bullard, Texas) driving in both runs while going 2-for-3 in the game.
Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.),
Alex Massie (Pottsboro, Texas), and
Jaeda Gardner (Pike Road, Ala.) each picked up a pair of hits in the nightcap.
Elle Lunsford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) picked up the win with a complete-game effort allowing just four hits.
In the opening game of the series, Alabama State was held to seven hits in the loss with Massie going 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the way in the loss.
Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) suffered the loss in the opener working 6.0 innings and allowing four runs on nine hits.

- B5 | Alston walked with the bases loaded for the game's final run (4-2, MVSU).
How It Happened (Game 2)
- T3 | Dixon drove in the first run of the game with a triple to right to score DeRamus (1-0, Alabama State).
- T7 | Dixon singled up the middle, driving in Jazmine Dodd (Bentonville, Ark.) and DeRamus (3-0, Alabama State).
