Alabama State drops pair of games to Bethune-Cookman

Hornets will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contests to Bethune-Cookman on Friday, falling 3-0 in the opener and 8-0 in game two at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.

In the opener, the Hornets were held to just three hits – all by different players – with Kat McGlamry (Crawfordville, Fla.) getting one of the three and the only extra base hit of the game while Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) picked up a stolen base. Bailey Greenlee (Snohomosh, Wash.) suffered the loss in the circle, working 7.0 innings and allowing three runs (all unearned) on four hits with four strikeouts.

Alabama State was held to four hits in the nightcap with four different players picking up a hit, while DeRamus picked up her second stolen base of the day. Elle Lunsford (Lawrenceville, Ga.), one of three pitchers used on the day, suffered the loss working 5.0 innings and allowing six runs (all unearned) on six hits.

How It Happened (Game 1)
  • T3 | Joslynn Davis reached on an infield error allowing Kayla Traylor to score the first run of the game (1-0, Bethune-Cookman).
  • T5 | Shania Owens drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center (2-0, Bethune-Cookman).
  • T6 | Briana Paysinger reached on an error driving in the final run (3-0, Bethune-Cookman).
How It Happened (Game 2)
  • T1 | Paysinger drove home the first run of the game with an RBI groundout, before Desirae Martinez singled through the right side for another run (2-0, Bethune-Cookman).
  • T5 | Martinez drove home two more with a single to left center before Traylor reached on an infield error allowing another run to score. Essence Gibbs drove home the final run of the inning on a single up the middle (6-0, Bethune-Cookman).
  • T7 | Owens drove home the final two runs with a triple to left center (8-0, Bethune-Cookman).
Up Next
The two teams will play the final game of the series on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm inside the Barbara Williams Softball Complex with the Hornets honoring their senior class prior to the game.
