JACKSON, Miss. | Alabama State won their pounded out seven extra base hits and dominated Jackson State from start to finish, winning 21-3 on Sunday to claim their fifth Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series this season.
Alabama State (22-16, 13-3 SWAC) pounded out 20 hits in the win including six players with three or more hits in the win, led by
Corey King (Lithonia, Ga.) who finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI with a double and a pair of home runs.
Dilan Espinal (Canovanas, PR) finished 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, while
Christian Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI with a home run.
Chris Lewis (Alabaster, Ala.) finished 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and three RBI with a double, while
Jabronski Williams (Troy, Ala.) finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI with a double.
Ian Matos (Toa Alta, PR) returned after an extended absence and finished 3-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored with a double and home run.
Austin King (Fulton, Miss.) returned to his home state and improved to 5-1 on the season working 4.0 innings and allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
Kyler McIntosh (Columbus, Ind.) worked the final 3.0 innings and allowed a pair of hits with three strikeouts to pick up his second save of the season.
How It Happened
- T2 | Williams doubled to center to drive in Lewis and Trenton Jamison (Atlanta, Ga.) before scoring himself on an RBI double off the bat of Matos. The Hornets finished the inning with an RBI double from King to score Matos (4-0, Alabama State).
- T3 | Lewis doubled down the right field line to drive in Jamison and Lopez before he scored on an RBI single by Williams (7-0, Alabama State).
- T4 | Lopez singled down the right field line to score Espinal before Cristopher DeGuzman (Fajardo, PR) scored on a throwing error. Lewis drove home Lopez for the third run of the inning (10-0, Alabama State).
- T5 | DeGuzman drove home Matos with a sacrifice fly before Lopez hit a grand slam – the first of the season for the Hornets – to left center (15-0, Alabama State).
- B5 | Jefrey Rodriguez drove home the first run of the game for Jackson State with a single to left, followed by a fielder's choice and then a double by Ty Hill (15-3, Alabama State).
- T6 | King hit a three-run home run to left to score Matos and Williams (18-3, Alabama State).
- T7 | Matos hit a two-run home run down the left field line, followed by a second home run from King (21-3, Alabama State).

Alabama State returns home this weekend for a key Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series beginning Friday night at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex. The two met earlier this season in Daytona Beach (Fla.) with the Wildcats winning the series.
