ITTA BENA, Miss. | Alabama State dropped the final game of its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series to Mississippi Valley State, losing a 4-3 walk-off to the Devilettes on Saturday afternoon.
Alabama State (16-21, 8-7 SWAC) dropped its second consecutive series and first to Mississippi Valley State since 2012. The Hornets were held to five hits in the contest with five different players each picking up one each.
Alex Massie (Pottsboro, Texas) led the team going 1-for-2 at the plate with a pair of RBI, while
Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) drove in the other run.
Elle Lunsford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) suffered the loss working 2.1 innings in relief of
Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.). She gave up two runs off two hits in the loss, while Greenlee worked the first 4.0 innings and gave up two runs on four hits.
How It Happened
- T4 | Massie doubled down the right field line to score Destinee Dixon (Bullard, Texas) for the game's first run (1-0, Alabama State).
- B4 | Shelby Carson singled through the left side to tie the game, before Cailyn Peterson connected on a sacrifice fly to center (2-1, MVSU).
- T5 | DeRamus singled through the left side to score Lauryn Maher (Atoka, Tenn.) to tie the game (2-2).
- T6 | Massie drove home Dixon with a sacrifice fly (3-2, Alabama State).
- B7 | MVSU used a double steal and an error to tie the game up before Sydney Wesley reached on a fielder's choice to drive home the winning run (4-3, MVSU).

Alabama State returns to action on the road on Tuesday as it heads to Atlanta to face Georgia State. First pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.
