GULFPORT, Miss. | Alabama State used a six-run fifth inning to walk off Grambling State 10-2 in the opening game of the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Softball Championships.
Alabama State (21-29) used a two-hit day from SWAC Player of the Year
Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) and a complete game from
Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) in the win. DeRamus and
Jaeda Gardner (Pike Road, Ala.) each finished 2-for-2 at the plate with each driving in a run. Greenlee finished the day on the mound picking up the win, giving up two runs (both earned) on seven hits with a strikeout.

- T3 | Dazzlyn Woodard singled up the middle to drive in the game's first two runs (2-0, Grambling State).
- B3 | DeRamus singled to third to drive in Gardner, before scoring on a wild pitch (2-2).
- B4 | Morgan Gaither (Brookwood, Ala.) drove in a run on an RBI groundout, before Arianna Atchley (Millbrook, Ala.) scored on a Gardner double (4-2, Alabama State).
- B5 | Jazmine Dodd (Bentonville, Ark.) doubled home Greenlee, before DeRamus scored on a wild pitch. Alex Preston (Stockton, Calif.) tripled to drive home a pair of runs, before Morgan Gaither (Brookwood, Ala.) doubled home Disroe. The Hornets walked off Grambling State on a single off the bat of Aishja Wilcher (Barnesville, Ga.).
