GULFPORT, Miss. | Alabama State scored five runs in the first inning and scored seven unanswered runs to pull away from Texas Southern and remain undefeated in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship Tournament on Wednesday.
Alabama State (22-29) got another stellar performance from
Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) in the circle, with her second consecutive complete game effort. She allowed just one run (earned) on five hits with four strikeouts on the day in picking up her 13th win of the season, while also going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI.
Jazmine Dodd (Bentonville, Ark.) finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
Alex Preston (Stockton, Calif.) also picked up a pair of hits and RBI, while
Morgan Gaither (Brookwood, Ala.) finished with a pair of RBI.
How It Happened
- T1 | Destinee Dixon (Bullard, Texas) singled to right to drive in Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) before she and Dodd pulled off a double steal to build a two-run lead. Preston doubled to left center to score Dixon followed by an RBI groundout by Alex Massie (Pottsboro, Texas) and a Greenlee single to left (5-0, Alabama State).
- T4 | Gaither singled to left center to score both Dixon and Dodd (7-0, Alabama State).
- B6 | Tevana Tate doubled to left for the first run of the game for Texas Southern (7-1, Alabama State).
- T7 | Greenlee drove in another run with a single to right to score Arianna Atchley (Millbrook, Ala.) for the final run of the game (8-1, Alabama State).
Up Next
Alabama State returns to action on Thursday (May 12) against the winner of the Prairie View A&M and Bethune-Cookman game with first pitch scheduled for 2 pm. The winner of that game will advance to the championship round of the tournament.
