MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State weathered two lightning delays and an early four-run deficit to close out the home portion of their schedule with a 9-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over Mississippi Valley State on Senior Day at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Corey King (Lithonia, Ga.) powered the Hornets to victory with a pair of home runs including a three-run shot in the seventh – his 13th of the year – to give Alabama State the lead. He finished the game 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and five RBI, while
Kyler McIntosh (Columbus, Ind.) finished 2-for-5 with a double and RBI.
Christian Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) finished 2-for-5 with three runs scored, while
Jabronski Williams (Troy, Ala.) finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Ian Matos (Toa Alta, PR) finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Omar Melendez (Cayey, PR), the fourth of five pitchers used in the game, picked up the win out of the bullpen working 3.0 innings. Melendez (1-0) gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Luis Rodriguez (Canovanas, PR) picked up the save, recording the last two outs.
