GULFPORT, Miss. | The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) hosts the 2022 Softball Championships with Alabama State earning the East Division two-seed after a series win on the last weekend of the regular season.

The tournament will be held at the Gulfport Sportsplex in Gulfport (Miss.) May 10-14 with the Hornets looking to defend their conference championship won a season ago. Alabama State (20-29) will face Grambling State in the opening game of the tournament on Tuesday (May 10) as the Tigers enter the tournament as the West Division three seed. The two teams met earlier this season with Grambling State winning 2-1 back on February 25 in Montgomery. The two teams met last season in the conference tournament with Alabama State winning the game 11-0 in five innings.

Alabama State leads the all-time series with Grambling State 21-4, with the win by the Tigers this year ending a three-game Alabama State winning streak in the series.

Bethune-Cookman (East) and Texas Southern (West) each locked up the top seeds in the tournament with their respective division championships. The Wildcats will face West No. 4 seed Southern on the opening day of the tournament at 6 pm, while Texas Southern will face East No. 4 seed Jackson State at 3 pm. The other game of the opening features West No. 2 Prairie View A&M against East No. 3 Florida A&M at 12 pm.
