MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University women's bowling squad will open the 2023-24 campaign at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane University on Oct. 13-15.
 
The Hornets return a veteran lineup that features the SWAC Bowler of the Year Savanna Razor, and All-SWAC performer Lyric O'Steen. Alahna DeGruy and Emily Price also return for Hornets.
 
Head Coach Andrew Chatmon welcomes talented freshman Alexzanria Stewart, Peyton Hartgrove and Ammiah Wynn. Stewart and Hartgrove hail from Westerville Central High School in Columbus, Ohio, while Wynn is a Bettendorf, Iowa, product.
 
Stewart was a three-time All-OCC selection and a two-time Most Valuable Player, while Hartgrove was Ohio High School Division I State Championship runner-up and an All-State prep honoree. Wynn garnered 2023 Iowa Bowler of the Year honors and won the Iowa State Bowling title in 2022. 
 
Six SWAC foes are in the 16-team field, including Alabama A&M, Jackson State, Florida A&M, Pairie View, Texas Southern and Southern.  
 
The field features five National Tenpin Coaches Association ranked teams and three teams that received votes. Stephen F. Austin (4), Sam Houston State (5), North Carolina A&T (7), Louisiana Teach (8), and host Tulane University (17) are all ranked in the NTSA Top 25 while UAB, Alabama State and Emmanuel received votes.
