@BamasStateTrack Sweep SWAC Indoor Track and Field Titles

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. ­­­­—The Alabama State University men's and women's track and field teams broke several school and SWAC records on the way to sweeping the  2023 SWAC Indoor Track and Field titles on Friday the Birmingham Sportsplex. 
 
MEN'S NOTABLES
  • ­Abdiqadir Mohamed grabbed the bronze in the mile and 5,000. He finished SWAC with four medals and less than 10 points away from SWAC Outstanding Runner of the meet.
  • Marcus Cade placed fourth in the long with a final mark of 14.95m and seventh in the high jump with a final height of 2.02.
  • Isiah Palmer placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.25m that secured the SWAC championship for the men's team.
  • Victor Smith and Jamarion Stubbs finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 60-meter-dash.
  • The trio of Joshua KnoxKendrick Winfield, and Jamarion Stubbs went one-two-three in the 400-meter-dash that gave the men's team a heaping 24 points.
  • Khabeeba Mills and Amos Beadle found their way to the podium in the 800-meter-dash as they grabbed the silver and bronze respectively.
  • Matthew Clarke and Victor Smith took the silver and bronze in the 200-meter-dash with a 21.2 and 21.3. Clarke was .01 seconds from the gold.
  • The men's 400-meter-relay team of Joshua Knox, Winfield, Tate, and Stubbs grabbed gold and a new SWAC record running a 3:12.02 to end the meet.
  • Nicholas Moseley finished fifth in heptathlon totaling 4,520 points.
WOMEN'S NOTABLES
  • Shamia Jones secured gold in the mile and 800-meter-dash. Jones also earned the bronze in the 5,000m an
  • Taranique Alexander ended the evening with a pair of school records and four personal bests in her events. Alexander dominated the field winning gold in the triple jump (12.09m) and long jump (6.00m)
  • Yazmine Grace finished just behind Alexander in the triple jump earning the silver medal with a mark of 12.03.
  • Ja'Nyyiah Davis placed fifth in the long jump with a new PR of 1.63m
  • Rasunek Tyler-Thompson had a day as she set a new PR and secured the silver medal in the 60-meter-dash with a time of 7.54. Tyler-Thompson also grabbed the bronze in the 60-meter-hurdles.
  • Jaqual Bush earned a silver medal in the 200-meter-dash with a time of 24.36.
