BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama State University's Omar Melendez and Jackson State's Daniel Bannon as the SWAC Baseball Co-Pitchers of the Week for his outstanding performances during this past week of non-conference play.

Melendez tossed five shutout innings to help the Hornets capture a 13-0 win in their season opener versus Purdue-Ft. Wayne. He registered four strikeouts while allowing no runs and scattering two hits.

Bannon had multi-hit games in all three contests to open the 2023 season, hitting .500 (7-14) with four runs scored, a double, a triple, and seven RBI during games against Southern, Mississippi Valley State and Prairie View A&M.

Alabama State plays Grambling State to open play in the 2023 Andre Dawson Classic hosted by the University of New Orleans on Friday, Feb. 24 in New Orleans, La.
