MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Alabama State University Hornets and Lady Hornets track and field teams wrapped up the 2022-23 indoor season with first-place finishes at the 2023 SWAC Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on February 16-17.
The men's team won their eighth SWAC indoor championship and while the women's team captured their 17th SWAC indoor championship under Head Coach
Ritchie Beene's guidance.
The Hornets and Lady Hornets had 22 medalists during the SWAC Indoor championship, which included seven gold (first place) medals, seven silver medals (second place), and eight bronze medals (third place).
Taranique Alexander was named the SWAC Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer and
Shamia Jones were named the SWAC Women's Most Outstanding Field. Performer
Several ASU records fell during the indoor season.

Coach
Ritchie Beene ran his total championships to 57 Championships as a coach at Alabama Statem, tallying his 45th title as Head Coach. Beene was also awarded his 44th and 45th SWAC Coach of Year Honor following the indoor season. Beene is the all-time winningest coach at Alabama State and the SWAC and ranks among one of the all-time winningest coaches in NCAA track and field history.
The Hornet and Lady Hornets are anxious to go back to work in preparation for the 2023 outdoor SWAC season.
