@BamaStateSB Clinches East Division Title With 5-3 Win over MVSU

ITTA BENA, Miss. | Kindall DeRamus drove in three runs and Bailey Grenelee had another solid outing in the circle to lead Alabama State University softball to a 5-3 win over Mississippi Valley State University on Saturday at the MVSU Softball Field. 
 
The win secured first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference East Division and tied the Alabama State single season wins record with 28 set in 2016.  

DeRamus
collected three hits, including a double, while driving in three of the Lady Hornets five runs.  

Greenlee limited MVSU to one hit and one run with a pair of strikeouts
in 4.0 innings of work to earn her second win in the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED    
  • Kindall DeRamus led off the first inning with a bunt single and would score on a Alana Scott ground out after stealing second.  
  • DeRamus doubled home Kiana Parrish and Jasmine Rogers to make the score 3-0 in the second inning. 
  • Mississippi Valley scored a run in the bottom of the second on an attempted double steal to cut the ASU lead to 3-1. 
  • The Lady Hornets produced a run with two outs in the fourth to build a 4-1 lead. Rogers drew a walk and came home on a DeRamus infield single to short later in the inning., 
  • Alabama State left bases loaded in the sixth but did plate a run off a Jaeda Gardner sacrifice-fly for a 5-1 lead. 
  • Two runs crossed the plate in the sixth for Mississippi Valley State to trim the ASU lead to 5-3.  
IN THE CIRCLE    
  • Bailey Greenlee (17-8) limited the Delta Devilettes to one run on a hit with two strikeouts for her second win of the series. 
  • Oliva Brown (4) the final 3.0 innings to register the save. 
  • Shu Shu Tsosie (0-6) suffered the loss for MVSU, giving up five runs on six hits. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • Greenlee's win was her fifth in her last five starts in the circle.  
  • DeRamus went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.  
  • Rogers, Gardner and Parrish each had singles for the Lady Hornets. 
  • The Lady Hornets collected double-digit hits for th 18th time this season, totaling14 on the afternoon.
