Hornets Claim Record Win No. 38 In Twin Bill Split with FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Kerrigan Edmondson drove in four runs to lead Alabama State University baseball to an 11-5 win over Florida A&M University in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Friday at Moore-Kittles Field.  FAMU hits a two-run home run to earn a 5-4 walk off win in 14 innings in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1 
  • Corey King earned a leadoff walk to start the second and scored on a Jamal George single for a 1-0 ASU lead.  
  • George doubled with one out and scored on a throwing error in the fourth to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead.  
  • Alabama State loaded the bases in the fifth but could not scratch a run across to lead at 2-0. 
  • Florida A&M tied the game 2-2 in the sixth. Sebastian Greico singled in a run and a run scored on a fielding error.  
  • Corey King reached on an error and scored on a George RBI single to give the Hornets a 3-2 lead in the seventh. 
  • Jared Weber doubled and scored on a Ty Hanchey sacrifice fly to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh. 
  • Kerrigan Edmondson's RBI single in the top of the 14th gave the Hornets a 4-3 lead. 
  • Greico hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 14th for the walk off 5-3 win for the Rattlers. 
ON THE MOUND | GM 1 
  • Luis Rodriquez (2-1) gave up two runs on one hit with a strikeout as the pitcher of record for Alabama State. 
  • Zach Morea (4-2) had one strikeout and allowed one hit in 0.2 innings to earn the win for the Rattlers.  
INSIDE THE BOX | GM 1 
  • George finished with three hits, including a double and two RBI.  
  • Kyler McIntosh was 3-for-6 with an RBI. 
  • Ian Matos, Jack Haye and Corey King had two hits apiece.  
  • The loss ended the Hornets' 16-game SWAC winning streak. 
HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2 
  • The Hornets got on the board first when Randy Flores doubled and later scored on an Ian Matos groundout.  
  • Corey King's single scored McIntosh and Matos to make the score 3-0 in the third inning. 
  • Kerrigan Edmondson hit a three-run home run to highlight a four-run ASU fifth to make the score 7-0. 
  • Florida A&M scored three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to trim the ASU lead to 7-5.  
  • An Edmondson RBI double and a Cristian Lopez two-run double pushed the lead to 10-5 in the eighth.  
  • Randy Flores singled and came home on wild pitch to make the score 11-5 in the top of the ninth.  
ON THE MOUND | GM 2 
  • Ricardo Rivera (9-0) worked 5.0 innings, yielding three runs, two earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts to earn the win. 
  • Caleb Granger (6-3) gave up seven runs on 10 hits with a strikeout and three walks in the loss.  
  • Adiel Melendez (1) struck out a season-high five hitters while working 4.0 innings. Melendez gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits.

  • The win was the 38th win, tying the school record for wins in a season. 
  • Flores had three hits with a double and three RBI. 
  • Melendez tossed a season-high four innings with a season-high six strikeouts.  
  • Edmondson had two hits, including a home run and four RBI.  
  • Lopez had two hits with a double and two RBI. 
  • King finished with two hits and two RBI.
