BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama State's
Ali Lapread and
Omar Melendez for SWAC Baseball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of conference play.
Hitter of the Week
Lapread returned to the lineup and helped the Hornets to a series sweep of FAMU. He hit .625 with a 1.875 slugging percentage and a .769 on-base percentage during the three-game set. Lapread drove in seven runs with three home runs. He reached base nine times in 12 plate appearances on the weekend. Lapread went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in a 10-1 game two win. He was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in a 13-10 win in the series finale.
Pitcher of the Week
Melendez tossed 7.0 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts to help the Hornets earn a 1-0 win over FAMU in the series opener. He scattered five hits with three walks and only allowed one extra-base hit. Melendez won his sixth straight start.
