Three @BamaStateSB Players Set to Play in HBCU All-Star Game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University softball will have three student-athletes playing the HBCU All-Star Softball game presented by Dick's Sporting Goods at 6:15 (ET) on Friday, June 2, 2023. 
 
Kindall DeRamus, Jaeda Gardner and Ashley Pye accepted invitations to the game at the Georgia Gwinnett College Softball Field in Gwinnett, Ga. Bailey Greenlee, the SWAC Pitcher of the Year, also received and invitation but will not play due schedule conflicts. 
 
These four players were instrumental a very successful season that saw Alabama State collect an ASU record 30 wins while winning the SWAC Eastern Division. 
 
DeRamus was named the SWAC Player of Year for the second straight year, while earning SWAC Hitter of the Year and First-Team All-SWAC Honors. DeRamus led the conference in on base percentage (.513/16th NCAA), hits (64), runs scored (47), and walks (35) while ranking second in stolen bases (44/6th NCAA), stolen bases per game (0.894th NCAA and at bats (149). The Helena, Ala., native is third in the SWAC in batting average (.404) and RBI (34), seventh in OPS (1.012); second in triples (5).
 
Gardner earned All-SWAC Second-Team Honors while playing and starting in 51-of-51 games at second base. Gardner hit .361 with 48 hits, two doubles, 23 RBI, and 23 stolen bases. Gardner ranks fourth in the SWAC in hits (48) and is third on the team and just outside of the SWAC top 10 with a .361 batting average. Gardner tied for third in the SWAC in sacrifice flies with four.
 
Pye made 30 appearances with 17 starts in the circle for the Lady Hornets, posting a 3.80 ERA with five wins, 35 strikeouts and a .287 opponent batting average. 
 
The HBCU All-Star Game is presented by Minority Softball Prospects (MSP). The teams are selected by current and former HBCU coaches and players. Each player selected will have the opportunity to compete against the best in the game, and show Major League scouts that HBCU ball players have what it takes to advance to the next level.
