Alabama State will be at Jacksonville (Fla.) on Friday and Faulkner on Sunday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State officially kicks off the regular season with a pair of road matches this week beginning in Jacksonville (Fla.) on Friday.

Alabama State and the Dolphins kick at 6 pm (ET)/5 pm (CT) before the Lady Hornets travel back to Montgomery to play at crosstown foe Faulkner on Sunday at 2 pm.

Alabama State Notes
  • Alabama State is coming off a 6-8-4 season in 2022, including 4-2-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.
  • The Lady Hornets finished the regular season with two straight wins over Mississippi Valley State and Alabama A&M before falling in the conference tournament.
  • The Lady Hornets also return leading scorer Kassandra Schoen who finished the year with 16 points including seven goals, while also returning McKinley Hacker with eight points including four goals.
  • They also return 2021 SWAC Freshman of the Year Camila Jimenez who missed all of the 2022 season with a preseason injury.
  • Alabama State had three players named Preseason All-Conference including a pair of first-team selections in Schoen and Elli Higashi. They were joined on the second team by Katelyn Walerczyk.
  • The Lady Hornets won their lone exhibition game 3-1 over Mobile with goals from Jimenez, Walerczyk, and Kensley Simmons.
Jacksonville Notes
  • Jacksonville is coming off a 6-5-5 campaign in which they went 3-4-3 in Atlantic Sun Conference play in 2022.
  • The Dolphins return their leading scorer in Ayana Black who finished the season with four goals and tallied 10 points, but must replace second-leading scorer Selma Fohrer.
  • They return goalkeeper Gretchen Duttenhofer who played in seven matches and made 11 saves.
  • They closed last season with a three-match unbeaten streak heading into the conference tournament before falling to top-seeded Liberty.
Faulkner Notes
  • Faulkner is coming off a 10-6-2 mark in 2022 including a 4-3-1 in conference play. The Eagles played a pair of games in the conference tournament, falling to William Carey in the season finale.
  • The contest with Alabama State will be the season opener for Faulkner.
  • They must replace leading scorer Annabel Cuthbert (11 goals) from last season, but return Alessia Confalonieri. She scored 10 goals and finished with 22 total points for Faulkner last season.
  • In goal, Faulkner returns Keila Cardeiro Carmona who started 11 matches last season. She recorded 79 saves and finished with a 2.70 goals against average.

  • Jacksonville leads the all-time series 1-0, winning the lone matchup 4-1 in Jacksonville on September 2, 2016.
Series History (vs. Faulkner)
  • Alabama State leads the all-time series 4-1-1, with Alabama State winning the last matchup 2-1 last season (September 11).
