Tennis to open fall slate at HBCU National Championships

Men look to defend their crown this week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State heads to Atlanta this week for the 22nd annual HBCU National Tennis Championships where the men will look to defend their national title from 2022.

Last season, the Hornets dethroned defending champion Xavier (La.) using a championship by David Jeanne-Grandinot in the Men's Single B Flight, and a doubles championship by Grandinot and Matis Amer in the Men's Doubles B Flight. On the women's side, Alabama State reached the Women's B Singles championship, however, the match ended in a draw.

This year's tournament will be held at the South Fulton Convention and Visitors Bureau beginning Thursday, September 14.

Seeding for each draw will be determined by the newly adopted ITA, the most up-to-date World Tennis Number (WTN) information. Each draw will have eight seeds, while still taking into account institutions with multiple players in draws will not face each other (should they continue to win).

About the HBCU National Tennis Championship
The HBCU National Tennis Championship has always stood for providing schools with the opportunity to compete in a tournament during the Fall to allow players to meet, compete, and be crowned National Champions at the end of the tournament, both individually and as teams.

The HBCU National Tennis Championship is open to HBCU schools interested in participating. Every year, we have over 15 collegiate institutions (over 30 men's and women's tennis programs) with close to 250 players competing in slated events, for both singles and doubles.
