MONTGOMERY, Ala. | TJ Madlock led three players in double figures as Alabama State dropped its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) home opener 73-63 to Jackson State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Thursday night.

Madlock scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Alabama State (7-9, 2-1 SWAC), finishing 7-of-16 percent from the field, hitting all five of his free throws. He also dished out a pair of assists and recorded three steals.
Isaiah Range added 12 points and
Sean Smith 11 off the bench.

Ken Evans led Jackson State (6-9, 2-0 SWAC) with 24 points, while
Jordan O'Neal finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, and five blocked shots. Chase Adams added 16 points and six assists, while Zeke Cook grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

How It Happened
- The Hornets shot 33.3 (10-of-30) percent from the floor and 18.8 (3-of-16) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 50.0 (1-of-2) percent from the free throw line.
- Jackson State finished the first half shooting 46.7 (14-of-30) percent from the floor and 33.3 (3-of-9) percent from beyond the arc. They also hit all seven of their free throws.
- Alabama State trailed by 14 at the break (38-24) before coming back to pull within a pair on an Isaiah Range three-pointer with 9:45 remaining. From there, Jackson State went on a 12-1 run to extend the lead to 60-46 before TJ Madlock ended the run with a lay-up with 6:14 to play.
- The Hornets were able to trim the deficit to single digits, but Jackson State was able to pull away at the free throw line.
- Alabama State finished the night shooting 34.3 (23-of-67) percent from the floor and 28.6 (10-of-35) percent from beyond the arc. They also connected on 77.8 (7-of-9) percent from the free throw line.
- Jackson State finished the night shooting 47.1 (24-of-51) percent from the floor and 29.4 (5-of-17) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 83.3 (20-of-24) percent from the free throw line.
Alabama State Notes
- Micah Octave recorded a steal with 13:12 remaining in the first half to extend his streak to 16 consecutive games to open the season with a steal.
- Smith played in his 16th game of the season and scored in all 16 with an eight-point first half.
- Range scored his 1,000th career point with 9:45 remaining in the game on a three-pointer.
- Alabama State attempted 35 three-point field attempts, a high for the season topping the 32 attempted against Oglethorpe.
- Madlock is now just 10 points away from joining Range with 1,000 career points after his performance against Jackson State.
