PINE BLUFF, Ark. | CJ Hines led five players in double figures as Alabama State won its second consecutive road game to open Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, defeating UAPB 83-72 at H.O Clemmons Arena on Monday night.

Hines finished with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor including four three-pointers and dished out a team-high five assists.
Sean Smith added 14 off the bench going 5-of-6 from the floor and knocked all four free throws while dishing out four assists.

Amarr Knox added 11 points off the bench, while
TJ Madlock and
Isaiah Range each added 10 points in the win for Alabama State (7-8, 2-0 SWAC).
Ubong Okon grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and blocked two shots as the Hornets won their third consecutive game.

Kylen Milton led UAPB (5-10, 0-2 SWAC) with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Rashad Williams added 14 points and three assists.

How It Happened
- UAPB pulled to within a point at 69-68 before Alabama State went on a 6-0 run to grab a 75-68 lead, putting the game away at the free throw line.
- Alabama State finished the night shooting 42.6 (29-of-68) percent from the floor and 30.8 (8-of-26) percent from beyond the arc. They also connected on 77.3 (17-of-22) percent from the free throw line with Madlock and Smith combined to knock down 12 of their free throws combined.
- UAPB shot 38.7 (24-of-62) percent from the floor and 25.9 (7-of-27) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 81.0 (17-of-21) percent from the free throw line.
- Alabama State forced 13 turnovers while committing just eight, while also assisting on 18 of the 29 made field goals.
- The Hornets led every miscellaneous statistical category including fast break points (25-14) and bench points (33-13).
- The game was tied six times with three lead changes, with Alabama State leading for 29:01 in the game.
Alabama State Notes
- Madlock scored all 10 of his points in the second half after early foul trouble, and connected on all eight of his free throws. It marks the 14th time in 15 games Madlock has scored in double figures this season.
- The 21 points scored by Hines is the most he has scored since transferring to Alabama State this year, topping his mark of 19 set against Memphis on the road.
- Micah Octave recorded a steal in the first half, stretching his streak to 15 consecutive games with a steal to open the season.
- Range is now just 10 points away from 1,000 career points after his double-digit effort, while Madlock is 30 points shy of the mark.
- The 10 rebounds by Okon marks the third time he has gone into double digits in rebounds, and since being inserted into the starting lineup seven games ago the sophomore center has gathered 57 total rebounds.
- Smith has played in all 15 games and has scored in all 15 games this season and reached double digits for the fourth time.
