BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State finished second at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships, while
Shamia Jones was named the SWAC Outstanding Track Performer of the Year.

Alabama State finished second with 113 points ahead of Prairie View A&M, finishing behind Florida A&M overall.

Jones registered three top-three finishes as an individual and was part of the Distance Medley Relay team that finished second on Saturday. She also scored points in another race, finishing fifth in the 800-meters at 2:14.44. The senior won the conference title in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:12.42, while finishing second in the 3000-meters with a season-best 10:53.29.

She also finished third in the 5000-meters with a time of 19:23.68.

Jones wasn't alone in winning a conference title as
Quincy Penn captured the 400-meters in a conference record 53.60, and
Taliah Wickett claimed the 800-meters with a season-best 2:10.95.

Meanwhile,
Jaqual Bush finished second in the 200-meters at 23.54 while Penn crossed the line fifth at 24.25.
Rasunek Tyler-Thompson finished sixth in the 60-meters at 7.58 and seventh in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.07, while the 4x400-meter relay team finished second (3:45.72).

In field events,
Ja'Nyiah Davis finished fifth in the high jump with a season-best height of 1.63 meters (5-04.25), while
Yasmin Grace finished fourth in the triple jump with a season-best jump of 11.98 meters (39-03.75)
