MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to the field after a midweek doubleheader sweep, hosting the HBCU Celebration Classic at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex and Lagoon Park beginning Friday.

The Classic features nine teams playing 19 games over three days at two different facilities. Alabama State (5-6), coming into the weekend on a three-game winning streak, opens play on Friday, Feb. 23 against Grambling State at 6 p.m., followed by Howard (12 p.m.) and Tennessee State (2 p.m.) on Saturday.

The Lady Hornets close out the weekend at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23 against Alcorn State.

Jaeda Gardner and
Kindall DeRamus lead Alabama State at the plate hitting .500 and .464 respectively. The duo has combined to score 14 runs, collect 26 hits, and knock in 10 runs.
Kendall Smiley is hitting .424 with 14 hits while
Brooke Ramsey is at .345 with three doubles and a triple.

Olivia Brown has recorded a 2.69 earned run average in six appearances, while
Charity Bibbs (2-3) has logged 29.1 innings and has 22 strikeouts.
Ashley Pye (1-2) has recorded eight strikeouts and
Ana Richiez (2-0) has appeared in six games with two starts, winning both games on Wednesday.

Alabama State Notes
- DeRamus entered the year tied for sixth all-time at the school in hits with 200, and through the first nine games this season is now just two hits shy of tying Kenisha McKee for the school record at 215. She is currently tied with Kendall Core for second place with 213.
- Gardner moved into 13th place all-time at the school in hits following her weekend in Atlanta and the pair of games with Tuskegee with 140 career hits.
- DeRamus and Garnder continue to move up the charts in several categories including runs scored with DeRamus now sixth all-time with 137 and Gardner 21st with 79 runs scored. DeRamus is also just two stolen bases away from moving into second place all-time at Alabama State.
