MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alexia Denby picked up three hits and drove in a pair to lead Alabama State to a 6-4 non-conference victory over Grambling State on the first day of the HBCU Celebration Classic.

Alabama State (6-6) won its fourth consecutive game after scoring three runs in the first and five combined in the first two innings. Denby finished the night 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored with a double and a triple.
Kindall DeRamus picked up a pair of hits in the win, tying the all-time school record with 215 career hits, and scoring a pair of runs.

Charity Bibbs (3-3), the third of three pitchers, picked up the win working the final 3.0 innings allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts.

How It Happened
- (B1) Denby singled to center to score DeRamus who led off the game with a hit before the lead was extended when Jaeda Gardner stole home. The Lady Hornets added to the lead on a sacrifice bunt from Alana Scott to score Denby, Alabama State 3-0.
- (B2) DeRamus picked up her second hit of the game allowing Alora Bevily to score on a throwing error before tripling home DeRamus, Alabama State 5-0.
- (T4) Tavon Leadon singled up the middle to score Kamryn Broussard, Alabama State 5-1.
- (T5) Grambling State pulled off a double steal with Kayliana Cash stealing home and Katelyn Walls stealing second to trim the deficit. Broussard trimmed the deficit to just two with a single up the middle to score Walls. The Tigers scored again after Z'Natria Evans reached on a fielder's choice, Alabama State 5-4.
- (B5) Scott hit into an RBI groundout to score Denby, Alabama State 6-4.

Alabama State returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 24 with a pair of games on day two of the HBCU Celebration Classic. They will face Howard for the second time this season at noon before facing Tennessee State at 2 p.m. at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
