MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Kindall DeRamus became the school's all-time hits leader helping Alabama State to an 8-5 victory over Alcorn State to close out the HBCU Celebration Classic at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.

DeRamus finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI, but it was her first hit of the day in the fifth inning that broke the school's all-time hits record that stood for two decades. The hit was the 216th in the career for DeRamus breaking the break of 215 set by Kenisha McKee (1999-2002).

Alexia Denby finished 2-for-3 on the day with a pair of runs batted in and
Kendall Smiley picked up a pair of RBI in the win for Alabama State (7-7).

Ashley Pye (2-2) picked up the win in relief working 1.1 innings and allowing just one hit while
Ana Richiez picked up her second save of the season working the final 1.2 innings in relief.
Kohana Pousson started the game and worked 4.0 innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits with three strikeouts.

How It Happened
- (B2) Zoee Disroe hit a solo home run to left for the game's first run, Alabama State 1-0.
- (T4) Yahnya Acevado reached on a fielder's choice that scored a pair of runs for the Braves, Alcorn State 2-1.
- (T5) Hannah Miller singled through the right side to drive home Kristian Edwards, Alcorn State 3-1.
- (B5) Smiley reached on a fielder's choice that scored Mickey Coslor from third before Denby singled to center to drive home DeRamus to tie the game. Brooke Ramsey gave Alabama State the lead on a single through the left side to score JaNiyah Boykin, Alabama State 4-3.
- (B6) DeRamus singled up the middle to score Jaeda Gardner before Smiley singled to short to score Coslor. Denby added some insurance with a sacrifice fly to center to score DeRamus before Smiley scored on a wild pitch, Alabama State 8-3.
- (T7) Kelsey Lockridge doubled to left center to score Miller and Edwards, Alabama State 8-5.
