MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road for the first time in 16 days when it travels to Atlanta to face Georgia State in a non-conference game.
The game will be the final non-conference game before Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play begins this weekend in Montgomery. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. (ET) first pitch at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.
Alabama State (9-10) hits the road after a 10-game game home stand that including a pair of tournaments, with the Lady Hornets finishing the stand at 6-4 including winning their last home game against Jacksonville State. The game against Georgia State will be the second game this season against a member of the Sun Belt Conference after facing Troy in early February.
Over the last week, the Lady Hornets recorded their first win in school history over Samford and won for the first time over Jacksonville State since February 2000. The meeting between Alabama State and Georgia State (6-13) will be the fourth between the two in school history with the Panthers winning the previous three.
Kendall Smiley leads five players hitting over .300 this season for the Lady Hornets, hitting .385 with an OPS of .891. She is joined by
Jaeda Gardner (.372), the school's all-time hits leader
Kindall DeRamus (.367),
Brooke Ramsey (.308), and
Alexia Denby (.304).
Meanwhile, in the circle,
Ana Richiez (3-0, 2.78 ERA) leads the team in earned run average while logging 22.2 innings, while also picking up a pair of saves with 11 strikeouts.
Charity Bibbs (4-5, 2.83 ERA) leads the team in innings pitched at 54.1 and has recorded 40 strikeouts in 15 appearances.
