MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Jackson State used a six-run second inning to defeat Alabama State 7-1 clinching the opening series of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex on Saturday night.

Alabama State (10-13, 1-2 SWAC) collected eight hits as a team in the final game of the series but committed five errors in the loss.
Kendall Smiley led the offense finishing 3-for-4 while five others picked up a hit in the loss.

Charity Bibbs (4-7) suffered the loss working 1.2 innings in the start allowing seven runs (five earned) on just four hits.

How It Happened
- (T1) Beija Allen drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to center, Jackson State 1-0.
- (T2) The Tigers started the scoring on a sacrifice bunt by S Huckabee before Allen drew a bases-loaded walk to push the lead to three. A pair of two-run singles pushed the lead to seven, Jackson State 7-0.
- (B3) Alana Scott grounded out to short to score Kindall DeRamus, Jackson State 7-1.
- (B5) Scott drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to right before Lindsy Smith recorded an RBI groundout, Jackson State 7-3.
- (B7) Kelsey Long doubled in the game's final run, Jackson State 7-4.Â
