Alabama State Athletics Awarded $100,000 NCAA AASP Grant

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State Department of Athletics is a recipient of the NCAA's Accelerating Academic Success Program (AASP) single-year initiative $100,000 grant for the 2024-25 academic year.

"We are incredibly thankful to receive the 2024 NCAA AASP grant. This funding represents a significant investment in our student-athletes experience and will be instrumental in enhancing our athletic programs," said Dr. Jason Cable, ASU Vice President and Director of Athletics. "We are excited to implement the new initiatives that directly align with NCAA directives."

The $100,000 grant will be used to support the ASU Department of Athletics mission and directly impact the leadership program, nutrition, mental health training, wellness station for mental health professionals, concussion testing, nutrition, and space renovations.

The AASP, established in 2012, assists Division I schools working to meet the NCAA's academic standards. Annually the NCAA awards over $1 million in grants to colleges and universities with limited resources to support the academic success of student-athletes to increase graduation rates.

Only schools in the Football Championship Subdivision or classified as an HBCU (Historically Black College and University) are eligible to receive an AASP grant.
