Espaillat, Power Sweep SWAC Weekly Baseball Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State University freshman Alex Espaillat and pitcher Trey Power swept this week's Southwestern Athletic Conference weekly baseball honors.

Espaillat earned SWAC Hitter of the Week, while Power was named the SWAC Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week.

Espaillat earned his first career start at shortstop, leading the Hornets to a 14-4 win in the series finale at North Florida. Espaillat went 3-for-5 with a double and five RBI.

Power tossed five solid innings in Sunday's 14-4 run-rule win over UNF. Power yielded one run on five hits with three strikeouts to earn the win.

Alabama State opens a three-game SWAC Series against Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., on Friday at 6 p.m.
