MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama State University proudly announces that standout student-athlete Anthony "Duece" Woods II has officially qualified for and been accepted into the 2025 Toyota USATF Outdoor National Championship, taking place in Eugene, Oregon.
Woods, who will be accompanied by Coach Alexis, is scheduled to compete in the jump events on August 3. The duo will depart on August 1 and return on August 4.
This prestigious meet stands as one of the toughest in the country to qualify for outside of the NCAA National Championships, featuring elite athletes from both the collegiate and professional ranks. Qualification is reserved for those who meet rigorous performance standards or are selected by the USA Track & Field committee.
For the first time during the current coaching tenure, Alabama State will be represented in a field event at the USATF Outdoor National Championship, marking a major milestone for the Hornet Track & Field program.
Coach Alexis, who has worked closely with Woods, spoke to his growth and dedication:
"This young man has endured a lot over his career, made a sacrifice, and trusted the process. Duece is a special talent and an even better person. He's truly embodied the theme our group started with back in Fall 2024: Greatness."
Head Coach Beene also shared his excitement and appreciation for the journey:
"I am extremely excited for Anthony Woods II, 'Duece.' He has stayed the course throughout the year. Perseverance is what comes to mind when I see him. I credit his jump coach, Alexis, for that."
Woods himself reflected on the magnitude of the moment:
"I feel great. Honestly, I'm just grateful to be able to compete amongst some of the best in the world. Me and my coach have been working all summer for this moment. I'm proud to be here, and I'm ready to compete."
Woods' achievement not only highlights his personal determination and talent but also shines a national spotlight on Alabama State University and the SWAC, further proving that excellence lives and thrives in Montgomery.
