HUMBLE, Texas | Alabama State University women's bowling posted a 4-1 record over five traditional matches on day two of the SWAC West Round Up to climb from fifth into second place in the team standings.
The Hornets finished the day with wins over Florida A&M (850-759), Grambling State (985-587), Southern (939-886) and Alabama A&M (972-928). Alabama State's lone setback came against Jackson State, 1033-800. Through 10 total matches, the Hornets sit at 6-4 with a total pinfall of 8,942 and a 178.8 average.
Jackson State leads the field at 8-2, while Alabama State is followed closely by Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern, both at 6-4.
Individually, Alabama State placed four bowlers among the top 20 in the overall standings. Olivia Miller led the Hornets and ranks fifth overall with a 187.6 average after rolling 1,876 total pins across 10 games. Jenna Knight is eighth overall at 182.5, followed by Taylor Lee in 10th at 180.3 and Nikia Thomas in 12th at 178.3.
Lee also stands seventh in the freshman standings, while Knight and Miller continued to anchor a balanced Alabama State lineup that produced team scores of 939, 985 and 972 in three of the final four matches of the day.
The SWAC West Round Up concludes on Sunday with four traditional matches as the Hornets take on Florida A&M, Grambling State,Prairie Viwe A&M and Texas Southern.
