HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Alabama State University women's bowling posted a solid opening day at the 2026 SWAC Roundup Two on Friday, finishing Day One with a 3-2 record in traditional play and sitting third overall in the event standings at the Von Braun Center.
The Hornets totaled 4,300 pins across five traditional matches, averaging 172.0 per game, as they remained firmly in the mix behind unbeaten Jackson State (5-0) and Florida A&M (4-1). Alabama A&M also finished Day One at 3-2, narrowly edging ASU in total pinfall, while Prairie View A&M and Southern rounded out the middle of the standings.
Alabama State opened the day with a strong 954–806 victory over Southern, setting the tone early behind consistent scoring across the lineup. After dropping matches to Jackson State (856–843) and Alabama A&M (962–757), the Hornets rebounded with wins over Prairie View A&M (883–764) and Texas Southern (863–833) to close the session on a high note.
Individually, Alabama State placed multiple bowlers among the top performers on day one. Jenna Knight led the Hornets with a 183.4 average over five games (917 total pins), ranking seventh overall in the individual standings. Nevaeh Williams followed closely with an average of 179.2, while Olivia Miller averaged 178.0, highlighted by a tournament-high single-game score of 254 in the opening match. Taylor Lee and Nikia Thomas rounded out the ASU lineup, providing steady depth throughout the day.
Through two SWAC roundups combined, Alabama State remains positioned in the upper tier of the conference standings, with Thursday's performance keeping the Hornets within striking distance of the league leaders heading into the remaining days of Roundup Two.
