HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Alabama State University softball team dropped an 11-3 decision to Southern University on the opening day of play at the SWAC Softball Championship on Thursday.

With the loss, ASU moves into an elimination game on Friday at 2:30 p.m., versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The conference office also released its list of postseason honors that included a trio of Hornets. Junior pitcher Destinee Sanchez and freshman infielder Boshia Richardson both earned second-team All-SWAC accolades. Sophomore Quayanna Forte was named a member of the All-Academic squad.
