LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Alabama State University men's and women's track teams head to the NCAA Mideast Regional this weekend in Louisville, Ky.
ASU has 10 student-athletes competing in the regional being held Friday and Saturday at Cardinal Park.
“We are a team that can compete with some of the nation's best,” said head coach
Ritchie Beene. “We will get our chance to do that this weekend at the Mideast Regional. We have had a great outdoor season and I'm excited to see how our athletes compete against a very talented field.”
The top five individual event finishers and the top three relay finishers at the Mideast Regional advance to the NCAA Championship to be held June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
ASU's participants include:
Women
Tokeyah Jones (freshman, Valley, Ala.), 100-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay;
Jamie Brooks (sophomore, Bessemer, Ala.), 4x100-meter relay;
Asha Tavernier (freshman, Naples, Fla.), 4x100-meter relay;
Dawn Hemanes (sophomore, Lithonia, Ga.), 4x100-meter relay; and
Shexnievia Bryant (sophomore, Hollywood, Fla.), hammer throw.
Men
Delorean Peek (sophomore, Detroit), 400-meter dash, 4x400-meter relay;
Jonathan Franklin (sophomore, Lawrenceville, Ga.), 400-meter dash, 4x400-meter relay;
Vincent Butler (freshman, Douglasville, Ga.), 4x400-meter relay;
Timothy Edwards (senior, Lithonia, Ga.), 4x400-meter relay; and
Robert Gunn (junior, Hueytown, Ala.), 5,000-meter run.
