HAMMOND, Ind.—The Alabama State University women's golf team is in 10th place after the first round of the Chicago State Cougar Classic. The tournament is being held at the Lost Marsh Country Club.
ASU shot a first-round 335 led by Aileen Meredith's opening round 79 which ties her for 16th. Amelie Buhl shot an 84 followed by Melissa Nawa's 85 and Taaj Hubbard's 87. Danielle Robinson shot a first-round 89, as all five golfers finished among the top 66 players in the tournament.
The tournament is bunched up as the Hornets only trail ninth-place University of Wisconsin-Green Bay by five strokes and are only 13 strokes out of the top five. IUPUI leads the 14-team tournament with an opening round 308, followed by Butler University's 310 and Loyola University's 314. Host Chicago State stands in fourth place with a 315.
Tomorrow's final round is set to begin at 9 a.m.
