BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State University women's golf maintained its position in third place after two rounds of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Golf Championships, posting a strong second-round improvement on Tuesday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley (Ridge Course).
The Lady Hornets shaved nine strokes off their opening-round total, carding a 323 in round two for a 36-hole score of 655 (+79). Alabama State sits just behind second-place Texas Southern (650, +74) and leader Prairie View A&M (634, +58) heading into the final round.
Alabama State was paced once again by a pair of standout performances from Kierra Williams and Carmen Fletcher, who are tied for second individually at 158 (+14). Both golfers turned in identical rounds of 78 (+6) on Tuesday after opening with 80s in round one, positioning themselves firmly in contention for medalist honors. Prairie View A&M's Fernanda Rendon leads the field at 155 (+11).
Lindsey Christiana Marcellus is tied for 15th overall at 168 (+24) after posting an 86 (+14) in round two, while Thayika Kittiyanaruewat made a significant jump up the leaderboard with an 81 (+9) on Tuesday and is tied for 18th at 171 (+27).
Rounding out the Lady Hornets' lineup, Iman Shah sits in 25th place at 180 (+36) following an 87 (+15) in the second round.
As a team, Alabama State showed resilience and consistency on day two, improving its scoring average and maintaining separation from fourth-place Jackson State (664, +88). The Lady Hornets will look to continue that momentum in Wednesday's final round as they aim to close the gap on the top two teams.
The final round of the SWAC Women's Golf Championships is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
