The Alabama State University's bowling team fared well during the 2012 Bulldog Challenge in Normal, Ala. finishing 3-2 on the day and third overall. The Lady Hornets split a win against host team Alabama A&M capturing two wins over UAB while falling to Vanderbilt once.
“We did pretty well today as a team,” said head coach
Andrew Chatmon. “Although this was our first tournament we came out strong, but I think we have some things that we need to go back and work on. There were some things that I did see that we did as a team that I really liked and that was every member of team was supportive of each other and cheered one another on.”
Alabama State had a total pin fall of 2601 and was led by freshman
Kaila Ryan which had a solid 573 performance averaging 191 pins per game. Ryan bowled a 145, 200, and 228. She was followed by junior
Briana Wells who tallied a 526 total pin fall. Freshman
Andranice Collins also had a strong showing with a 509 pin fall.
“Ryan bowled excellent for us today,” Chatmon said. “As well as all the other ladies on the team did. She was really consistent as a freshman and very steady the whole day. Ryan showed her maturity and that's a good thing. But like I said before the whole team did well and nobody really struggled today.”
“The competition was real stiff today. “It was great competing against a ranked #3 team (Vanderbilt) and a ranked #16 team (Alabama A&M). Beating A&M during our traditional game play it was a great momentum mover beating them. I look forward to our next tournament when we go to Bethune. There are going to be at least five teams that rank in the top 20 and after today's results I think that we will be able to hold our on.”
The Lady Hornets will travel to Ormond, Fla. to participate in the Wildcat Classic hosted by Bethune-Cookman October 26-28.
