Bowling Participates In Wildcat Invitational

The women's bowling team of Alabama State University get set to travel to Ormond, Fla. to participate in the Bethune-Cookman Wildcat Invitational, starting Friday, October 26, at 9 a.m. at the Sunshine Bowling Center.  The invitational will run through Sunday, October 28.

“I see the team doing well this weekend,” said Andrew Chatmon, head women's bowling coach.  “The girls had their first taste of competition last weekend during the Bulldog Classic hosted by Alabama A&M.  We got out a lot of the nervousness and now we are ready for the next test.”

Alabama State had a total pin fall of 2601 and was led by freshman Kaila Ryan which had a solid 573 performance averaging 191 pins per game last week.  Ryan bowled a 145, 200, and 228.  She was followed by junior Briana Wells who tallied a 526 total pin fall.  Freshman Andranice Collins also had a strong showing with a 509 pin fall.

The Lady Hornets will participate in a field of 12 teams.  Some of the teams joining Alabama State are Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickson, Florida A&M, Monmouth, Morgan State, Prairie View, Sam Houston State, and Tulane and host team Bethune-Cookman.

“I feel as though the girls are ready,” Chatmon said.  “I think that this will be a bigger test because it's a larger stage of competition this time around.  I believe that we will do fairly well as long as we maintain our focus.”
