The Alabama State tennis teams faced Stillman College Friday afternoon at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center. The Hornets overpowered the Tigers 5-2, while the Lady Hornets fell 4-3 to the Lady Tigers.
“I felt like we came out tough in doubles on the men's side,” Head Coach
Anuk Christiansz said. “For the women, they still need to get a little bit tougher, but I was proud of their showing. I'm very proud of the guys for closing out the match. Lex stepped up for us, being a senior.”
“We have a very young squad on both sides and I think we have a lot of work to do, but I think overall, both teams played well despite Nathalie going down with an injury which made us default her match.”
The men's team defeated SC in each doubles matchup.

Jarred Thompson overwhelmed Luis Mendoza Velsco/Jangeun Lee (8-5). In the third doubles match,
Julian Cseszko/ Rodrick Williams topped Santiago Robles/David Torres (8-5).
The Lady Tigers took the one doubles point over ASU, but Axantxia Wijugaarde/
Nathalie Lorenco won their matchup over SC's Whitney Horner/Rosana Mederias.
In singles competition, the Lady Hornets dropped two of their five matches.
Arantxia Wijngaarde defeated Veronika Kalugina (6-3, 6-0), while
Melissa Telfer overpowered Rosana Medeiros (6-4, 6-2). Kajti Kraus overwhelmed Whitney Horner in the final match of the day for the ASU women's squad.
The Hornets took three of its five matches to knock off Stillman College in singles.
Lex Pierre defeated Vladyslar Zhyron in three sets (7-6, 2-6, and 7-6).
Jarred Thompson knocked off Velsco in three sets (4-6, 7-6, and 6-3), while Vojnic smashed David Torres (6-0, 6-3).
