The SWAC Champion Alabama State women's golf team finished ninth in the 54-hole FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by the University of Memphis.
 
The Lady Hornets posted a Top 10 team finish in the 12-team event, with scores of 323, 328, and 331. Brooklyn Kraakman was the top finisher for Alabama State, with a score of 239. Her best round came in the second of 18 holes on Monday, shooting six-over 77 on the par-71, 6,105-yard track at the Ridgeway Country Club just outside of Memphis in Germantown.
 
"I saw progress from our team in multiple areas," head coach Dr. Gary Grandison said. "We have the potential to perform much better."
 
With their next competition set for late October, Grandison will hope to see the 2013 SWAC Champions play at the level he believes they have.
 
"I believe that our ladies are finally figuring out how to make the next jump," Grandison said. "These next six weeks will indicate if we are committed to playing closer to our potential."
