After opening the 2014 tennis season with three consecutive road matches, the Alabama State University tennis teams will host Stillman College Wednesday Feb. 5 at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Complex. The matches for both the men and women are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Both Hornet programs enter the match looking for their first wins of the season, but the early season has seen some positives come out of the 2014 Hornets.
"We have been playing with great intensity this season and tomorrow I am looking for the same intensity they have been displaying so far this season," Head Coach
Anuk Christiansz said. "I want to see it in doubles and I want us to come out hard and fast and I am looking for a strong showing in doubles to get us started and I want to take it to the singles court."
There have been several matches in both doubles and singles play where the Hornets have had chances to pull out some wins that have gotten away from them, a trend the coaching staff is looking to break in tomorrow's action.
"I think we have been a little bit more consistent this season, but we have to close out some of the matches we have been leading in and have had chances to win," Christiansz said. "Hopefully we will do that tomorrow and pick up the wins."
Last season with the excitement over the improvement of the tennis program, playing home matches became a highly attended event by not only ASU students but the Montgomery tennis community as well. It is something the Hornets look forward to in playing their first home event of the 2014 season.
"I think it is good to get home for the first time, we have been away for the first three matches and it is a good chance for them to play here at home in front of our fans," Christiansz said. "Most importantly they don't miss classes like they have to when we are on the road. Hopefully we can pick up the wins tomorrow here at home and it will give us a little more confidence for the rest of the season, so we are looking forward to it."
Tomorrow's home matches are the first of six consecutive home matches for the men's and women's teams over the next two weeks.
