Golf Teams Have Strong Showings This Week

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Alabama State women's and men's golf teams had strong showings this week, with the women finishing third and the men sixth in separate tournaments.

The 2011 and 2013 SWAC Champion women's team finished third in the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. Alabama State finished third out of 11 teams at the Jacksonville (Fla.) Beach Golf Club.

Alabama State shot 334 and 321 to finish the 36-hole event with a team total of 655. Dismary Marquez was stellar for the Lady Hornets, finishing second with a seven-over par 151 (76-75) on the par-72, 6,022 yard layout.

Brooklyn Kraakman (85-83), Shanon Spinuzzi (85-83), and Sylvia Masango (88-80) each shot 168, and Mia Campbell's 175 completed the scoring for Alabama State.

The back-to-back SWAC Champion Alabama State men's team finished sixth out of 16 teams in the Bash On The Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Jose Rodriguez set the pace in the 54-hole event for Alabama State, finishing tied for 11th with a score of 214 (75-70-69) at the Surf Club.

Francis Berthiaume shot 217 (77-71-69), finishing one shot ahead of teammate Branson Ferrier's 218 (71-73-74). Ian Mmbando's 225 (78-73-74) and Yann Pfeiffer's 227 (76-75-76) completed the scoring for the Hornets.

Both teams return to action April 5 and 6 in the Florida A&M Invitational.
