KILLEN, Ala. | Alabama State University men's golf capped off a solid showing at the Turtle Point Invitational with an eighth-place team finish, led by senior Wesley Bairros Rodrigues, who tied for 10th individually at 6-under-par (210). The tournament was hosted by the University of North Alabama at the Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club.
Rodrigues opened the event with back-to-back rounds of 69 (-3), setting the tone early for the Hornets and keeping himself in contention among a competitive 75-player field. He closed with an even-par 72 to finish at 210 (-6), marking his best finish of the fall season and his second consecutive top-15 performance.
Alabama State posted rounds of 303 (+15), 288 (E), and 305 (+17) for a three-round total of 896 (+32). North Alabama's "A" team took the team title at 842 (-22), while Southeastern Louisiana finished second at 862 (-2).
Behind Rodrigues, senior Telmo Sueiro tied for 49th at 225 (+9) after carding a second-round even-par 72. Robert Woods followed closely, tying for 60th at 230 (+14), highlighted by a standout 69 (-3) in round two. Rounding out the lineup, Osiregbeme Egbakhumeh (235, +19) and Marcus Leonard (238, +22) finished 66th and 69th, respectively.
Rodrigues' consistency across all three rounds once again proved crucial for Alabama State, giving the Hornets momentum as they continue their fall campaign.
The Hornets close out the fall schedule at the Leigh High Invitational on Oct. 25-26 in Bethlehem, Pa.
