Lady Hornets Win Women's Collegiate Tournament

ATLANTA – The back-to-back SWAC Champion Alabama State women's golf team won its second tournament of the week by winning the 20th Women's Collegiate Championship at Stone Mountain Golf Course.

The Lady Hornets posted a team score of 642 (322-320) on the par 72, 5,925-yard course.  Alabama State played all five golfers in the top 10. Dismary Marquez (79-82), and Shanon Spinuzzi (83-78) shot 161 to finish tied for fourth, one shot ahead of Mia Campbell's sixth-place finish with a score of 162. After shooting an opening round 86, Campbell shot the low round of the tournament Sunday with a four-over par 76.

Brooklyn Kraakman (81-84) and Sylvia Masango (79-86) each shot 165 to finished tied for eighth. Playing as an individual, Darleen Raymond finished in 14th place (90-88; 178).

"Our ladies played team golf on one of the more difficult courses in the Atlanta area," head coach Dr. Gary Grandison said.  "While Dismary and Sylvia scored the lower first rounds, Mia and Shanon scored the lowest final rounds."

Alabama State will learn its NCAA Tournament destination Monday at 5 p.m. on the selection show, which will be shown live on Golf Channel.
