MONTGOMERY, ALA. – Alabama State University held its athletic graduation reception for fall 2015 at Abernathy Auditorium on Friday morning as 20 student-athletes were presented with graduation sashes, a welcome from Faculty Athletic Representative
Dr. Sara Kiser and speeches by Associate Athletic Director Dr. Ronald Brown and Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics
Melvin Hines.
Hines discussed the importance of setting goals high and that the new graduates have now been equipped with the skills and education needed to not only change the state of Alabama for the better, but also for the world.
"You will not only be able to come and walk through the door, but now you'll be able to bust the door down," Hines said.
"When people ask me what's the most successful part of my job, I tell them it is when I get to see students walk across the stage to receive their diplomas."
Family and friends also joined in on the reception, which included a light brunch and pictures taken in Abernathy Hall as well as in front of the new ASU football stadium.
Graduation commencement took place on Friday afternoon in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
