Alabama State opened up the Southwestern Athletic Conference Bowling Tournament today at the Bowling International Training & Research Center in Arlington, Texas.
The first day consisted of five rounds of traditional play where the teams total pin fall count determines their seeding. The Hornets defeated Texas Southern 911-896 in the first round, then Southern in round two 905-794.
Alabama State continued its winning streak in the third round against Alabama A&M 925-839 but fell to Prairie View A&M 937-951 in the fourth round. Even though they had a tough 1101-919 win over Jackson State.
"Today was a rough start but the team battled, stuck together and supported each other," said head coach
Andrew Chatmon. "I am very proud of the ladies especially the way they kept their composure at the end. It was a few times where we fell behind but we managed to pull through"
Saturday will start bracket play with teams competing in five; five man baker matches with double-elimination format. Jackson State and Prairie View A&M which are the top two seeds will have a first round bye. Alabama State is third with Texas Southern, Alabama A&M and Southern in the bottom half of the field.
