Cartier, Lackova Headline ASU Tennis All-SWAC Honorees

MONTGOMERY – The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) released its 2016 All-SWAC Teams and the first place ASU men's and women's teams have several members listed.  The Lady Hornets actually sweep the individual honors that were voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

Junior Marine Cartier has been named the SWAC Player of the Year.  Cartier played at two in singles and recorded a 9-1 overall record and went undefeated 5-0 in conference play.

Freshman Gabriela Lackova was named the league's Freshman of the Year.  Lackova led the conference with 13 total wins in her first season on the courts.  She also finished her conference play with a 6-1 record, which tied for the league-high in conference wins.

The women also placed a doubles team on the First Team as Cartier and Patricia Regal finished the season 6-3 in overall doubles play, but went undefeated at 5-0 against SWAC competition.

Named Second Team All-SWAC for the women were senior Arantxia Wijngaarde and Lackova.  Wijngaarde enjoyed her best season on the court for ASU and had a 4-1 SWAC record playing at the always-tough number one spot.

Lackova teamed with Nicole Tekelova in doubles action as the duo were named Second Team All-SWAC.  The doubles team finished the season 4-2 in conference action.

Karlo Skvorc and Adam Coyne headline the men's All-SWAC team as both received First Team honors.  Skvorc built on last season's All-SWAC Tournament honors by going 5-5 overall this year and finished 2-1 in SWAC play.

Coyne was a player who played through injuries most of the season.  He did not compete in singles play much as he finished 2-2 overall, but in SWAC play he went 2-0.

ASU's Takura Mlambo and Skvorc were named First Team in doubles.  The duo played three doubles and finished 5-3 overall and 3-0 in SWAC play.

Mlambo was also named Second Team in individual action.  He played at number one singles and tied for the second most wins in singles action in the conference with seven.  In SWAC play he finished 3-2.

Both teams received opening-round byes at this week's SWAC Tournament and will open play Saturday, April 16 in the tournament semifinals.
