Ben Swaffield continued his early season success with a final round 75 (+3) and eventual seventh-place finish at the Skyhawk Golf Classic Tuesday afternoon.
Swaffield went low often, tallying 12 birdies across 54 holes, the second most among all competitors. He did most of his damage on part fives, coming in at five-under par and averaging 4.58 per par five on the way to his strong finish.
A trio of Hornets tied for 20
th overall as
Thacher Neal and
Thomas Caddell matched Swaffield's 75 on the closing 18 holes.
Afnan Chowdhury turned in at five-over par and
Noel Sims (30
th overall) posted his second consecutive 76 (+4). Sims was dynamite on par threes, finishing second in par three scoring at even-par.
Mbongeni Maphosa Jr., competing as an individual, fired a 78 and tied for 31
st overall. Maphosa and Caddell were also proficient on the shorter holes, finishing just behind Sims in par three scoring (+1).
Alabama State (+26) finished fifth overall while Tennessee State won the event, leading the pack from start to finish.
The Hornets continue their jaunt through the fall schedule and head north to Chicago, Ill. for the Ted Rhodes Invitational beginning October 7
th.
