HARAHAN, LA. | The Alabama State women's bowling team finds itself in 10th place despite tallying the ninth most pins in the traditional-style scoring on the second day of the Tulane All-State Sugar Bowl Invitational.
The Lady Hornets took down defending SWAC champion Texas Southern (860-846) before coming up short against North Carolina A&T (985 - 1,015), Jackson State (889 - 904) and UAB (792 - 907). Senior
Haley Young led all Lady Hornets with 886 pins total pins and is in 30th place on the individual leaderboard.
Allison Sledge (32nd) followed closely behind with 884 pins,
Alex Copey (45th) finished with 732, Alize Stephenson (55th) 665,
Bailee Chapman (66) 536,
Gabrielle Hosein (67th) 517 and
Tiarra Wilkins (80th) tallied 199 in one match played.
Sam Houston State remains in first and leads all teams with 9,266 total pins.
"I was pleased to see us take down Texas Southern, but overall it was an up and down day where we reached as high as 7th before finishing 10th, however, we have a good chance to move up tomorrow," Alabama State head coach
Andrew Chatmon said.
In tomorrow's final bracket round, Alabama State will be paired with Florida A&M. The teams will participate in three Baker best 4-out-of-7 matches at 8:30 a.m. to determine the final team standings, with an awards ceremony following shortly after the competition.
